Good News from the Gooding Wellness Group: Summer 2025 Newsletter

☀️ A Season of Growth, Connection, and Care ☀️

Gooding Wellness Group in Cold Spring Harbor, NY

With summer drawn to a close and a new season beginning, we’re taking a moment to reflect on all the ways our team has continued to grow in service of our clients and community. From mental health training opportunities and counseling workshops, to community wellness events and networking with other professionals, our practice remains committed to bringing the very best in care to the individuals and families we support.

This issue highlights some of the meaningful moments from the past month—our participation in National Recovery Month, presentations on trauma-informed education, and advanced training in EMDR therapy, a powerful approach that has helped many of our clients heal from trauma and addiction.

We’re proud of our team’s ongoing dedication and invite you to read ahead to see how these efforts strengthen not only our practice, but the mental health resources available to our Long Island community.

Connecting with Colleagues

ree

On Friday, July 11, Gooding Wellness Group proudly hosted our Caffeine, Calories & Connections networking event in the backyard of Sweetie Pies on Main. We were honored to welcome private practitioners, agencies, treatment facilities and other dedicated healthcare professionals for a morning of meaningful conversation and collaboration.

Events like this remind us how fortunate we are to work alongside such compassionate, skilled professionals who share our commitment to supporting the well-being of our community. By building these connections, we can better serve our clients with comprehensive care and resources.

From all of us at Gooding Wellness, thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed your time, energy, and expertise. Your partnership makes a difference every day—and we are deeply grateful.

Summer Therapist Meet Up

ree

On Friday, July 25, Peter and Gordon were delighted to attend the Summer Therapist Meetup at For Five Coffee in Garden City. The event was hosted by our very own Liana Ross, along with colleagues Kendal Bierman and Lindsay Weber, and welcomed therapists from across Long Island for an afternoon of coffee, connection, and community.

We’re so grateful to be part of a network of professionals who value collaboration, support, and shared learning. Events like this not only strengthen our professional community but also enhance the resources and care we can provide to the clients and families we serve. A big thank you to everyone who came out and made this summer gathering such a success!

Expanding Our EMDR Expertise

ree

At Gooding Wellness, we continue to embrace the power of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—an evidence-based therapy that helps people heal from trauma by reducing the emotional distress connected to painful memories. Many of our clients have found EMDR to be a life-changing part of their recovery journey.

This month, Peter completed a 12-hour training course, Recovering from Behavioral & Substance Addictions with EMDR Therapy, while Gordon took part in a 12-hour, Attachment-Focused EMDR Workshop on Healing Relational Trauma. Both are currently working toward EMDR certification, expected in early 2026, reinforcing our practice-wide commitment to providing the most effective trauma-informed care.

Presentation with A.S.P.I.R.E. (Association of School Prevention, Intervention and Resource Education)

ree

In September, Peter and Gordon were honored to present to A.S.P.I.R.E. (Association of School Prevention, Intervention and Resource Education), a group especially close to my heart as a fellow school social worker. This dedicated network of professionals meets throughout the year to share knowledge, resources, and strategies to better support students and families across Long Island.

Our presentation focused on Trauma-Informed Education—how trauma can impact a student’s ability to learn, concentrate, and feel safe in the classroom, and the vital role educators play in recognizing these signs. We explored practical strategies for building trust, fostering emotional regulation, and creating safe, predictable environments where students can thrive, even in the face of difficult circumstances. This is a subject Gordon and Peter love to discuss with professionals.

We are deeply grateful to collaborate with such a passionate group of school social workers, whose dedication ensures that students not only receive academic support, but also the compassion and understanding they need to grow and heal. Together, we can continue building school communities that prioritize resilience, safety, and hope.

National Recovery Month

At the Gooding Wellness Group, we remain deeply committed to supporting individuals and families affected by addiction. This September, in honor of National Recovery Month, our team was proud to join the Town of Huntington Wellness Walk as a participating vendor alongside so many passionate agencies and organizations. Coming together as a community reminds us of the resilience and strength of those walking the path of recovery—and the importance of standing in solidarity with them.

In recognition of this important month, we also launched a new blog, Marijuana and Mental Health, which explores the connection between cannabis use and its impact on mental health. We invite you to read the blog here and join us in continuing the conversation about recovery, wellness, and hope.

🍂 Looking Ahead 🍂

As we move from long summer days into sweater weather and pumpkin spice season, our commitment remains the same—providing compassionate, high-quality support to the individuals and families we serve. Each season brings its own challenges and opportunities, and we’re honored to walk alongside our clients and community through it all.

We’re especially excited to share that we’ll be launching a new free resource this fall, designed to support anyone interested in mental health and wellness—whether you are a Gooding Wellness client or simply part of our broader community. Stay tuned for details in the weeks ahead!

In the meantime, be sure to follow us on Instagram [@GoodingWellness] for updates, helpful resources, and a closer look at the work our team is doing every day. Together, let’s make this fall a season of growth, resilience, and connection.
