Good News from the Gooding Wellness Group: Spring 2025 Newsletter

Gooding Wellness Group in Cold Spring Harbor, NY

We can finally say it- it’s summertime! As we move into these warm summer months, we wanted to tell you a little bit about how we spent our spring here at Gooding Wellness. As always, we had a very productive season connecting with our local communities and working towards our mission of quality mental health care.

Gordon & Liana in the Media!

This spring, Gordon was featured in an article from Family Therapist, an online publication that features experts in the mental health field. In his article, Gordon explored how common teenage behaviors that are often seen as defiant and troubled are actually signs of healthy adolescent development. His piece reminds parents that emotional ups and downs are completely normal. He also gives his two cents on when parents should step in to support and when they should step back and let their teen problem-solve on their own.

Gordon was also featured in an article from Mommy Rheum, an online blog that aims to support those who suffer from chronic illness, as well as their families. In an article about increasing emotional resilience, Gordon shared his thoughts on the beauties of discomfort. Whether you’re nervous about setting new boundaries or hesitant about starting therapy, new habits feel uncomfortable because they challenge old patterns. Real change begins when we accept the discomfort and move forward in spite of it.

Meanwhile, Liana was busy being featured on the Business of Therapy podcast. In her episode, Liana shares how building a platform on Instagram has helped her grow her practice and connect with clients. Sharing her expertise online through platforms like Reels or Tik Tok has helped her present information simply and casually, making it more accessible to viewers. In her episode, she also discusses overcoming guilt, creating content with confidence, and how she stays authentic online. Check it out here!

Our Therapists In Our Local Schools

This spring, Peter and Julia attended Wellness Week at Northport High School. Wellness Week is an annual event hosted by Northport High School that encourages students to take time to reflect on mental health and explore resources available to them. Peter and Julia got to represent Gooding Wellness at this event and spent time connecting with some amazing high school students. Each student participated in a “doodle board” activity, which helped them identify safe adults they can go to when they need support.

Peter and Julia were also able to attend Cold Spring Harbor’s Wellness Fair in early May, a similar event that highlights mental health resources within the community. This is an event we attend annually and we were honored to be able to participate again this year. Peter and Julia had a great time interacting with local students and families and connecting them with the resources they were interested in.

Each year, Gooding Wellness presents a scholarship to one Huntington senior at the Huntington High School Scholarship Night. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is looking to enter a “helping” field, whether that be mental health, healthcare, education, or other related professions. This June was the third year that we have offered this scholarship, and it was a pleasure to be able to participate in this event. This scholarship holds a special place in Gordon’s heart, as Huntington High School is his alma mater and his daughters.

Connecting with the Community

At Gooding Wellness, it’s important to us to explore resources outside of our practice

so that we can connect our clients with the right help, even if that’s not with us. This spring, Peter visited the Caron Treatment Centers, a groundbreaking rehabilitation center in Pennsylvania. While Gordon has previously visited, we were ecstatic to get another invitation so that Peter could see the grounds for himself. As always, the center wowed us with its impressive staff and programs, and we thank them for their consistent hospitality.

In late May, Gordon attended the grand

opening of Sage Psychology. Sage Psychology is a new practice on Long Island that offers testing and counseling services. Gordon has worked closely with Dr. Hurley, one of the founders, for years, and is so excited to see her starting her own practice alongside Dr. Popovits. It was a pleasure to see the new offices, learn more about their services, and connect with so many great professionals.

In June, Gordon and Peter got “suited up” to attend the LICADD Angel Ball at Oheka Castle. LICADD, otherwise referred to as the Long Island Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependencies, hosted their 38th annual Angel Ball at Oheka Castle to recognize community members dedicated to supporting their mission. We are long-time supporters of this amazing organization and are always grateful for the opportunity to connect with other leaders in the mental health field at their events.

On June 5th, Gordon attended a book launch event for Deborah Winters. Her new book, Building Your House of Harmony, focuses on parenting advice and transforming family relationships. It was a beautiful event where we were able to meet so many members of the community and fellow mental health professionals. Congratulations to Deborah on this new release!

On June 17th, Gordon, Peter, and Liana made the trip out to the Wellbridge Annual Summer Party and BBQ in Calverton. It was a night filled with great food and even better people, celebrated on the beautiful grounds of the Wellbridge campus. Wellbridge Treatment Center is one of the leaders for inpatient substance abuse treatment in the northeast. Gooding Wellness works closely with them, specifically in our Virtual Family Support Group hosted by our very own Liana Ross, LMHC, on Tuesday evenings. We are so grateful to have been invited back to this event and to continue to collaborate with the Wellbridge team.

Last but certainly not least, Liana attended a Puppy Yoga networking event hosted by Wellbridge and A Mission For Michael! Similar to Wellbridge, A Mission For Michael is a mental health treatment organization with several locations that specialize in both outpatient and residential care. This adorable yoga class was a great opportunity for her to unwind while connecting with some incredible local therapists associated with these two programs.

We’re deeply grateful for your support this past season and look forward to continuing to connect our clients and community with the highest quality care for themselves and their families. Until next time, we hope you enjoy the summer sun and keep being gentle with yourself!
